Black History Month Presentation Reminder – February 25th

Hello Families,

John Sweeney is pleased to announce a presentation from Mr. Karl Subban, father of 3 NHL players, on February 25th. He will be speaking on “having a dream”, sharing his story of “The Subban Plan for Success” which he details in his first book entitled, How We Did It. The book chronicles the family journey which lead to all three of his boys playing hockey, PK being the most successful. However, in order to execute that dream, a clear plan had to be in place.

This presentation will motivate and encourage the teachers, parents and students alike. As well as, create awareness of the accomplishments of Blacks and Black Canadians. The key message however, for our assembly will be to share the fact we all have a history, whatever our ancestry. There is a legacy to be celebrated and shared.

Mr. Subban will have copies of his book available.

The great, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Traffic Reminders at Entry and Dismissal

Traffic Reminders at Entry and Dismissal

Encourage your children to be healthy and walk to school and get some fresh air. Talk to other families and create a group of students who can walk together (a walking school bus).Traffic congestion is a concern on Activa and the surrounding streets. To avoid frustration, and long line ups at the Kiss N Ride, park in neighbouring side streets and walk up the remaining distance to the school.

Please follow all traffic signs, and information signs around the school. By-law officers will be visiting in order to enforce no parking zones and help to ensure student safety. There is no parking on the school site for parents (only drop off and pick up as part of the Kiss N Ride). So, avoid the traffic frustrations and establish a healthy routine of walking.

Your efforts to focus on alternate ways to go to and from school, will help to create a safe neighbourhood and reduce the amount of traffic on school property. As always our primary concern is student safety and calming the amount of traffic on school property.
